Description
The demolition of an end terrace house took place in order to create an access road for the site. To benefit the local community, we provided works on the neighbouring allotment to include an emergency access turning circle and parking. The majority of accommodation in the local area are houses, therefore there was a clear need for introducing new accommodation types such as apartments.
The natural habitat and landscaping strategy was a largely influenced in the development of this site, for example by endeavouring to maintain an open aspect to the neighbouring allotment we offered the opportunity for wildlife corridors. Landscaping around the development was reinforced to improve the biodiversity in the area, for example through open mesh fencing between the site and allotments in addition to the implementation of fruit trees to encourage wildlife.
Sustainability was also a key factor by implementing the following:
- Low energy efficient lamps used in all lighting within the dwellings
- 6/4l dual flush system
- Showers to a maximum of 6l /min
- All dwellings were highly insulated with high performance glazing top ensure minimal heat loss thus reducing the need for heating
- Three separate waste/recycling bins with a 30l total capacity
- Natural ventilation was utilised to avoid the need for electrical ventilation systems
“I found Harper Group to be exceptional in their quality of work throughout the build programme. From everyone associated with the company including site staff, subcontractors and the main office there was always a feeling of a positive working relationship, doing whatever was needed to achieve the objective. I would recommend Harper Group to anyone looking to instruct a company to undertake a development regardless of size, it was an absolute pleasure.” – Jonathan White, Project Manager, Platform Housing
