Overview

  • Heritage Lottery Funded Project
  • Refurbishment and Restoration of Regal Cinema

Description

J.Harper & Sons were appointed as Main Contractor following a single stage tender to carry out extensive internal and external refurbishment and restoration works at the Regal Cinema in Tenbury Wells, a Grade II Listed Building.

As a local contractor, restoration of this local landmark provided an excellent opportunity for J.Harper & Sons to demonstrate its restoration skills, whilst actively procuring the works through the local supply chain. The works were identified through a detailed Schedule of Works with a large percentage of the scheme requiring contractors design and specification, with all works being undertaken in a sympathetic manner to match the existing building fabric.

The building was completely re-roofed with the front elevation being restored back to its original character, with historic records used as a basis of its regeneration. The scheme involved various elements of contractor design including a full mechanical and electrical installation, structural repairs, underpinning, roofing works, damp-proofing and the complete overhaul of internal finishings.

The existing 1930’s mural within the auditorium was refurbished with close consultation with the local conservation officer and planning department to bring the feature back to its original level.

The project was undertaken with very close consultation with the Project Architect (Glazzards), Quantity Surveyor (Neville Topping) and local Conservation Officer and Town Planners.

The project was completed to a high level of finish, to budget and on time, with a number of additional works instructed following the provision of additional funding.
